Information Design Tool – A Universal look inside your company data with Ahmed Sherif – March 12, 2014 US/March 19, 2014 ANZ

With the introduction of BI4, we were all introduced to the information design tool, an entirely new tool for designing universes. Many legacy BusinessObjects customers have migrated to BI4 but have kept their universes as a .unv instead of a .unx because of familiarity and fear of instability. This presentation will share examples of three customers who initially refused to upgrade their universes to a .unx but ultimately found the upgrade with the information design tool more stable. Additionally, these customers found many of the new features with the IDT invaluable to preserve collaboration between multiple designers, allowing more control of datasets with the universe designer that was usually limited to the database administrator with the universe design tool.

While the end result of Design Studio is to produce an interactive Dashboard, a few minutes with the tool will show that the design features differ significantly from SAP Dashboards.  Much of the coding with SAP Dashboards can be leveraged with Excel, while SAP Design Studio leverages both Javascript and CSS for designing the layout and component interactivity.  This shift in Design Studio may initially restrain users from migrating existing SAP Dashboards.  The purpose of this presentation is to debunk the fallacy that you must be a coder to build dashboards with Design Studio and  highlight many of the key design features available inside of Design Studio that may guide you in building the code needed for building a BI Application or Dashboard with SAP Design Studio.

One reporting tool that is being heavily used for mobile reporting is Web Intelligence. There are several advantages for customers to look towards Web Intelligence for their mobile reporting. There are very high chances that companies already have existing Web Intelligence reports that are mobile compatible as well as all report development can be done without the need of client tools.  However, to maximize the effectiveness of reporting for mobile devices, there are certain guidelines developers should use that may not seem intuitive at first if they are used to desktop development. This presentation will focus on five key tips in report development for mobility that you would not necessarily do for desktop reports. The five tips will focus on three areas: Report and components layout; alerting and formatting; and filtering.
