CCleaner, a popular utility for Microsoft Windows from Avast/Piriform, was recently compromised with malware. The problem appears to be limited to the 32-bit edition, not the 64-bit edition that you may have used to clean up your SAP BusinessObjects servers.
SAP recommends CCleaner in KB 1372863 to obtain a clean uninstall of SAP BusinessObjects software and in KB 2037450 to obtain a clean uninstall of the Web Intelligence Rich Client. So far, we’ve had a good experience using it to clean up the registry, mostly on our internal test servers when it’s a time-saver to reuse an existing server to run a new version of the SAP BI platform.
If you use CCleaner, it’s worth taking a few minutes today to update to the latest version then scan your system using your favorite anti-virus/anti-malware tool.
