With the introduction of BI4, we were all introduced to the information design tool, an entirely new tool for designing universes. Many legacy BusinessObjects customers have migrated to BI4 but have kept their universes as a .unv instead of a .unx because of familiarity and fear of instability. This presentation will share examples of three customers who initially refused to upgrade their universes to a .unx but ultimately found the upgrade with the information design tool more stable. Additionally, these customers found many of the new features with the IDT invaluable to preserve collaboration between multiple designers, allowing more control of datasets with the universe designer that was usually limited to the database administrator with the universe design tool.

SAP Dashboards with Chris Greer – June 4, 2014 US/June 11, 2014 ANZ

As more companies hand over mobile devices to employees, more users are accessing their company data through those mobile devices. Therefore, more dashboard design is being requested first for mobility rather than desktop, and with release of BI 4.0 SP5, that has now become possible with Dashboards 4.0. However, as developers soon found out with Dashboards 4.0 SP5, dashboard design for mobility has different constraints than that for desktop. Certain key components are not yet HTML5 compatible for mobile apps. Additionally, there is only one data connectivity method as opposed to the numerous methods available for desktop. And finally, none of the common and popular dashboard add-ons are currently compatible for the mobile app either. This presentation will help dashboard developers set up their environment to be dashboard mobile compatible, provide tips for them to utilize alternate components and provide the same functionality for components that are currently unavailable, and show how to develop and structure layouts to take advantage of the portrait and landscape views on mobile apps.

Build your SAP Design Studio Dashboard without having to use code with Ahmed Sherif – June 18, 2014 US/June 25, 2014 ANZ

While the end result of Design Studio is to produce an interactive Dashboard, a few minutes with the tool will show that the design features differ significantly from SAP Dashboards.  Much of the coding with SAP Dashboards can be leveraged with Excel, while SAP Design Studio leverages both Javascript and CSS for designing the layout and component interactivity.  This shift in Design Studio may initially restrain users from migrating existing SAP Dashboards.  The purpose of this presentation is to debunk the fallacy that you must be a coder to build dashboards with Design Studio and  highlight many of the key design features available inside of Design Studio that may guide you in building the code needed for building a BI Application or Dashboard with SAP Design Studio.

As more users are accessing their company data through mobile devices, more report design is being done first for mobility rather than desktop. One reporting tool that is being heavily used for mobile reporting is Web Intelligence. There are several advantages for customers to look towards Web Intelligence for their mobile reporting. There are very high chances that companies already have existing Web Intelligence reports that are mobile compatible as well as all report development can be done without the need of client tools.  However, to maximize the effectiveness of reporting for mobile devices, there are certain guidelines developers should use that may not seem intuitive at first if they are used to desktop development. This presentation will focus on five key tips in report development for mobility that you would not necessarily do for desktop reports. The five tips will focus on three areas: Report and components layout; alerting and formatting; and filtering.
